Sounds of Dili

There is a limit to what words can accomplish in describing a place or a way of life. Though nothing substitutes for actually experiencing a place for yourself, images and sounds can give a fuller understanding of what that experience might be. This is an ongoing collection of sound clips made of distinctive sounds that we commonly hear and characterize life in Dili.

This unedited two minute clip was recorded on our front porch at 6:30 AM. These sounds are typical of those that we hear every morning: roosters, birds, dogs, people beginning their day.

This clip is the soundtrack for the image below. We never did find out the source of all the excitement.

The Bread-seller
This one-minute clip is of the vendor who pushes his cart through our neighborhood every morning about 6:30.
